Super deep fried fish with bone that can be eaten (Bali)

This is a famous restaurant in Bali for many years. I always visit there as long I am in Bali each time.

Don’t be fool by the load of tour buses as this is not a tourist trap, they serve real good and yummy Indonesia cuisine.

The name of the restaurant is Pondok Tempo Doeloe which mean olden days little cottage, pondok is little cottage and tempo doeloe is a local slang of olden days. The restaurant is huge and has many parking lots if your local friend is taking you there.

They have many delicious dishes and today I would like to introduce their famous star dish – Gurame bakar (deep fried Gurame). Gurame is a fresh water fish and not sea water fish, what so great about this dish? Not only did they deep fried, they deep fried till even some bone can be eaten like cracker. The meat is crispy on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside. Best to dig in immediately for its freshness and hot when they serve it to your table.

That is for now about this restaurant, I shall write about other dishes on another post… WAIT!!! Forgot to tell you guys, you must eat the fish with their homemade super spicy chili sauce. This homemade spicy sauce pack a lot punch and with a little sweetness in it, and it goes very well with Gurame bakar.

It is located East of Kuta beach, a 2.1km walk or about 5.5km drive (Kuta beach is a 1 way traffic)
